Freelance Software Development and Consulting (1998 - present)

  • Developed Your Wedding Presents - a free, non-affiliated wedding registry in Ruby On Rails. Anyone getting married can create a registry. Wedding guests view the gifts asked for by the bridal couple, and nominate which one(s) they will get (2006-present).
     
  • Developed WardWatch, a Palm organiser application for doctors on ward rounds. Included user interface design, coding (C, C++) and testing. Also developed a Windows (C++) application to synchronise data with the Palm application. (Torlesse Systems, 2001-2005).
     
  • Contracted services to Sun Microsystems, Palo Alto, CA, USA (2000-2001). Developed web based information systems (Perl, Java, XSLT), developed and maintaining numerous web sites, developed and administered large databases (Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL), performed software trials and designed user interfaces and software architectures.
     
  • Led a small team of consultants in order to identify the problems with a company's computerised billing, invoicing and accounting system. Extracted and backed up corporate data and recommended software and hardware upgrade strategies. Migrated data to new system (JM Hauling USA, 2001).
     
  • Analysed the mobile computing requirements of a large pathology service and developed a suite of applications that provided pathology information on the Palm organiser (C, C++). Built infrastructure (C++, Visual Basic) to regularly update the data on the Palm using the internet (Pacific Laboratory Medicine Services, 1999-2000).
     
  • Analysed the computerised billing requirements of a six-doctor GP practice. Developed a billing and account management system (C++) for the practice. Trained secretarial staff to use the system (North Turramurra Medical Practice, 1998-1999)
     
  • Designed and developed database for tracking accidents in schools, universities, TAFEs and industry. Also developed Perl/HTML interface for searching, viewing and adding to the database from the internet (Ecosolve, 2000).
     
  • Wrote software (C++) that generates and marks multiple choice exams. It grades students and stores their results for review by academics (University of New South Wales, 1998).

Freelance Network Engineering (2000, 2002)

  • Analysed the networking requirements of a home/small business. Built a local area network for eight computers. This included designing a network topology, running cables, installing networking hardware and configuring computers.
     
  • In 2002, installed and configured a router and broadband link to provide permanent internet access for the network.


Shareware Software Development (1997 - 1999)

  • Developed Regarde - Equation Graphing Software, a package for plotting mathematical equations.
     
  • Sold 80 user licences for Regarde including 3 site licenses to schools, over 20 single user licenses to individuals and educational institutions, and several licenses over the internet to overseas teachers.


Teaching at University of Technology, Sydney (2000)

  • Taught UNIX to first year university students.
     
  • Administered and designed workspaces for students and subjects using Java Livenet technology as a member of a joint academic and developer team.
     
  • Provided technical support to students using Livenet and developed teaching literature for students and lecturers.
